About Us
I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board (NZPB No. 90-04048) and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC). This means that I abide by the Code of Ethics for Psychologists and the requirements of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act. I am also a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (MNZCCP) and hold New Zealand Medical Professionals indemnity insurance. You can look me up on the NZPB and NZCCP websites and ask to view my APC, and I encourage you to do so (as with any health professional) to assure yourself of the training, registration, and experience required of a practitioner. I have an up-to-date LinkedIn page and encourage you to visit it to help decide if my practice offers the services you seek.
Psychological practice experience
I have been registered as a Clinical Psychologist in independent practice since 2002, with many years of experience in psychological assessment and therapy with adults. I have worked in public (especially hospital) and private practice settings, as well as lecturing psychology overseas and here in NZ. My PhD study involved researching and proposing an integrative therapy approach. You can expect me to be able to use a number of therapeutic models, and meaningfully integrate strategies from different approaches, to suit your needs. I was invited to author university textbook chapters on Anxiety and Sex and Gender Identity Disorders (ISBN10: 0195998375).
I use primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) models of treatment, and these include CPT, trauma-focussed CBT, Schema Therapy, and REBT. I am an AnzaCBT member, the New Zealand organisation for practitioners of cognitive and behavioural therapies, and was on the Executive Board for some years. I offer professional practice and research supervision to other psychologists, and also enjoy a non-clinical focus at times doing public presentations on psychology topics of general interest.
I work only with adult clients (usually over 21) and a different psychologist would be needed for children or youth. I am supervised by a senior Registered Clinical Psychologist, and this is a normal and positive part of any psychologist’s practice. I only discuss a handful of clients with my supervisor, and only when indicated for oversight and advice, and use only your initials or a first name to protect identities.
